Tips
Use Light Armor to Raise Your Dark Resistance
Pehn is a Dark element boss, so be sure to mainly equip Light element equipment/support equipment, excluding the weapons you need for your combos
Guardians Should Get Hit in the Back Row
Pehn doesn't have row attacks, so Guardians should also get hit from the back row.
Playstyle for Each Job
Swordsman Playstyle
Deal damage to the boss using Magic Twin Blades. When your Dragonkin Gauge is full, put out damage with Dragonkin Greatsword.
The attack after Pehn raises its head (Howl) is powerful, so be sure to get hit in the back row. Time the damage dealt by your DPS combos to avoid Howl as the “No Dialogue” version has a short cast time. You can easily dish out damage with Mitra, Holy Stilettos, and Holy Axe if you’re just starting out, otherwise Adamante -> Aetos -> Etoile/Holy Stilettos will do massive damage if those are available to you.
When all five jobs are in the party, be sure not to take too much Hate with your opening moves so that the Guardian can easily manage the Hate.
Mage Playstyle
Aim for a combo that lowers Pehn’s Magic Resistance while buffing your own Magic Attack. Use the Fortune Card before your Dragonkin attack for optimal damage and take advantage of Extreme damage Light staves. This boss does not change patterns nor does it have a predetermined order for its attacks, so build up your buffs and unleash Dragonkin inbetween Pehn’s attacks to avoid eating an all-unit in the front row.
Watch out for the No Dialogue Howl and make sure to get hit in the back row.
Guardian Playstyle
The Pehn battle has many single-unit attacks, so it is necessary to manage Hate properly. There are also all-unit attacks, so maintain DEF buffs to all units. Make sure to bring Folia or Blue Comet to reduce the damage the team takes from Howl. You can Dragonkin Trane on “Grrr” to reduce its damage because it’s 2x stronger than the “No Dialogue” Howl.
If you can't withstand Pehn's attacks in the front row, equip a weapon that moves you to the back row.
Cleric Playstyle
Keep your Guardian up using single-unit recovery. Watch out for the No Dialogue Howl and prepare a boosted all-unit recovery as it hits. The only thing to watch out for is “Grrr,” especially if DPS are in front, so consider Dragonkin all-unit heals before or after the attack depending on how healthy the team is.
Archer Playstyle
You will increase the DPS of the whole party using buffs and debuffs. If that sounds boring, equip Magic Twin Blades and do some front flips for style points, but be wary as this may upset your team. Crystal Sphere is a great Magic Device to use here as it reduces the damage of the No Dialogue Howls. If you want to reduce the risks even further, consider Dragonkin Earth Sniper on “Grrr” or Dragonkin weapons that will increase DPS output.
Holy Cannon is another option to increase DPS as it increases Light CS Power for the team if you’re using the Light element variant.
