Role and Characteristics

Guardians accumulate enemy Hate and draw enemy attacks. Their role is to protect their allies by using a wealth of damage-reducing buffs and curbing damage from single-target attacks and ranged attacks.

A Guardian excels in defensive stats, and when combined with their damage reduction, they are one of the most durable jobs.

Strengths

By constantly applying buffs that cut damage taken to all allies by 30% and damage taken to themselves by 50%, Guardians can drastically cut down on the damage taken by the whole party.

Additionally, by applying Elemental Resistance UP buffs to all allies, they are powerful enough to reduce most enemy attacks to 3 digits of damage.

Weaknesses

They require Essences of Battle and other challenging elements to grow their stats. The Guardian's weakness is that they will not be able to obtain an iron defense without putting in the time.

Guardian Playstyle | Main Combos

Extended Damage Reduction | Initial Hate Stability

Depending on the fight, as Guardian you may need to choose between generating Hate first or getting up your Damage Taken DOWN buffs. You can extend 30% Damage Taken DOWN buffs from the Mitra Knight’s Spada, Folia Guard, or Blue Comet with the Stone Shield.

If the fight is pure Physical Damage or solely Magical Damage, there are options to generate large amounts of Hate while extending your buffs as noted below.

Mitra/Physical Damage Taken DOWN Extenders: Adamante Scudo, Bellows Pike

Folia/Magical Damage Taken DOWN Extenders: Mer Shell, Elmira Spear

Boost Own Endurance | 50% Damage Cut

In Mitrasphere, you can cut damage taken by 50% by remaining in the rear row, but the Guardian must hold the front line.

In order to stay in the front row, you'll need to constantly apply a 50% damage cut buff to yourself, so equip the Steel Falchion. If the fight is all Physical Damage, you can bring Aetos Guard as a replacement as it generates a lot of Hate but also gives 50% Physical Damage Taken DOWN.

Hate Accumulation Combo | Initial Hate Stability

At the very start of a battle, we recommend using a weapon with an 800% Hate Accumulation Rate UP as your first move.  Any weapon with “Guardian Damage (Massive)” will generate a lot of Hate if you have good defense stats for it to scale off of.

Maintain an 800% Hate Accumulation rate while using a weapon with high damage potential and a 2.5x accumulated Hate multiplier to manage enemy Hate.

The Guardian can also buff Elemental Resistance as a means of improving endurance for all allies. Combined with the 30% cut to Damage Taken from Mitra, Folia, or the Blue Comet, you will be able to keep most enemy attacks at a manageable level..

Back Weapons

One of the Guardian’s jobs is to hold the front line so that near-unit attacks don’t hit the back row as they are powerful and are only meant to be absorbed by the Guardian. There are exceptions though as some battles have powerful tank busters, all-unit attacks, and instant kills/debuff. Study the fight and build your weapon set accordingly as taking a back weapon into a fight can either be a wasted slot or what keeps you alive in the end.

Overlapping Effects and Groups

Mitrasphere's buffs and debuffs are separated into groups, and it is possible for the effects from different groups to overlap.

The important letter groups for Guardian are Physical Damage Taken DOWN (I) and Magical Damage Taken DOWN (F) as these are your 50% damage mitigation buffs; Physical Damage Taken DOWN (H) and Magical Damage Taken DOWN (G) as your 30% buffs, and Hate Accumulation UP (A) as your 800% buff.
